At the 25km race that started today at 8:15 in the morning the Brazilian swimmer left 20 opponents from 13 countries behind.

“I am so happy to be part of these Championships. It is my second gold medal, I grabbed the first one 4 years ago at the 14th FINA World Championships in Shanghai. There is only a year left before Rio 2016. That is why the outcome of every single event here is priceless for me, I learn something new and want to train more and more!" said happily the world champion from Brazil.

Just like several years ago, her tactics are the same. The only difference is that now she is much more trained because she was training and competing with men in a team event. On the other side she overcame a hard won path to the victory and grabbed gold. Since she couldn’t get a qualifying spot for London 2012 it was rather difficult for her to summon up.

“I’ve been training 24/7, paying attention to every little thing. Not luck but intensive trainings are the recipe of success," the Brazilian athlete said. Ana also cheerfully added that she is about to surprise the audience at Rio 2016 with something else besides her haircut.

“I’m happy with the result. This is the second time I have participated in the 25km race, so I cannot say that I’m experienced. My strategy was to keep up with the leaders. The last lap was time-consuming for me. My thoughts were that it would never end,” Anna Olasz of Hungary, the silver medallist, told after the race.

German athlete Angela Maurer, the most experienced athlete on today’s podium, took bronze in Kazan.

“I’m satisfied with the result. This distance is always very difficult to swim. What concerned me today was that the men swam in front of us and we had to follow them. After the last lap I thought that I would be fourth, but collected myself and realised that I could win the bronze medal. When I saw my time on the board, I was happy,” said the athlete. Maurer confessed that she was glad to have managed to finish the marathon and, moreover, get a medal.
