Winner of the first gold medal at the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan, Haley Anderson (USA), admitted that her successful performance at this tournament will enable her to gear up for the 10km long-distance race in order to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

"It’s really exciting to win the first medal of the Championships. This distance was my warm-up for the 10km long-distance qualification event where qualifying spots for the Rio Olympics will be contested. How was the route? I liked it very much. Was it cold? It didn’t seem cold to me. We were all on equal terms,” Haley Anderson said.

“My tactics was to keep a little bit behind my rivals during the entire race and build up my strength for a final breakthrough at the home stretch,” the winner said.

As we’ve reported earlier, the US athlete Haley Anderson took the first gold medal at the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan. She finished the race with 58:48.4. Kalliopi Araouzu (GRE) placed second while Finnia Wunram (GER) rounded out the podium in third.
